‘Yudh Nasheya Virudh’: Illegal Construction of Drug Smuggler on Panchayat Land Demolished in Village Chatauli Kalan, SAS Nagar
Accused Involved in Multiple NDPS Cases; Heroin Seizure Case Among Charges
Kharar (SAS Nagar), June 4 (Satish Kumar Pappy):- As part of the ongoing state-level campaign ‘Yudh Nasheya Virudh’ to intensify the crackdown on drug smugglers, the SAS Nagar Police, in coordination with the Rural Development and Panchayat Department, carried out a demolition drive against illegal construction of a Drug Smuggler on Panchayat land in Village Chatauli Kalan, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Sadar Kurali.
The operation, conducted on Wednesday, was led by DSP Mullanpur Mohit Aggarwal and SHO Gauravbans Singh, following the directives of SSP SAS Nagar, Harmandeep Singh Hans.
DSP Aggarwal stated that the demolished structure had been illegally constructed on the village phirni (Panchayat land) by a known drug smuggler, Dilpreet Singh, who is currently facing trial and is in custody. The accused is involved in six criminal cases, including four under the NDPS Act, registered in the districts of Ropar and Mohali.
In one of the most serious charges, Dilpreet Singh was booked under the NDPS Act at Sadar Kurali Police Station on May 29, 2022, with a recovery of 445 grams of heroin. This action underlines the Punjab Government’s zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, DSP Aggarwal asserted.
He added that this demolition is a strong message to those involved in the drug trade. The drive is part of the larger anti-drug initiative spearheaded by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, aiming to eradicate the drug menace from the state.
SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans also issued a stern warning to drug peddlers, urging them to cease their illegal activities or be ready to face similar consequences. He reiterated the state’s firm commitment to eliminating drug trafficking and punishing those responsible.
The action was widely lauded by local residents and Sarpanch Gurpreet Singh, who expressed gratitude to the Punjab Government and district administration for their sustained efforts in the war against drugs.
DSP Aggarwal further informed that, in recent months, the Mullanpur Police Sub-Division has arrested 70 individuals in connection with 40 FIRs, with several of the accused referred to de-addiction and rehabilitation centres for treatment.
Additionally, the police have initiated proceedings under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, resulting in two cases of vehicle attachment/freezing and one case involving property—all identified as proceeds of drug trafficking.
Apart from others, Naib Tehsildar Majri Rajveer Singh Marwah and Panchayat Officer from Majri Block, Mandeep Singh were also present.
