Amritsar, October 11 (WISHAVWARTA):-In the national executive meeting of Indian Journalists Union, senior journalist and senior state vice president of Punjab and Chandigarh Journalists Union, S. Rajan Mann has been elected as a member of the national executive of the union for the second consecutive time.
Active in the field of journalism for the last three decades, Rajan Mann has been raising the voice of public interests as well as the problems of the journalist community from time to time. Keeping in mind the great contribution being made in the field of journalism, Mann has been elected at the national level. Indian Journalists Union is the only big organization in the country which has been struggling for the rights of journalists across the country. He said that he will raise the issues of journalists of Punjab at the national level. He said that talking about public interests is real journalism and we should expose the oppression being done to the people by the ruling parties as much as possible. He said that some black sheep have entered the media sector and they are defaming this holy profession.
Mr. Mann said that today, when the ruling parties have made great efforts to end journalism, in such an era, we should unite and fight strongly for our rights and especially the rights of the people. He said that
The increasing attacks on journalists in the country is a matter of great concern and therefore, fighting together is the main need of the hour. He said that the Indian Journalists Union has demanded the formation of a media commission to make a law for the protection of journalists and to go to the bottom of the changes in the media. In the two-day national executive meeting of the union in Jaipur under the chairmanship of Srinivas Reddy, the state governments were urged to enact laws to protect journalists. The Indian Railways had stopped the facility of concessional travel for journalists during the Corona crisis, and this facility has been demanded to be restored. The union has also demanded the formation of a National Media Council in place of the Press Council of India to give representation to print media as well as electronics media and social media.
He informed that comrades Balwinder Jammu and D. Somasundar have been elected unopposed as the national president and secretary general of the Indian Journalists Union respectively. He also informed that 150 members have been elected for the national council of the union. In which four comrades from Punjab have also got a place, in which apart from me, Shri Bhushan Sood from Shri Fatehgarh Sahib and Shri Sukhnaib Singh Sidhu from Bathinda have been elected, while one seat will be filled later. It has also been decided that in the national conference to be held in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh in the last week of January, the newly elected national president Balwinder Jammu, national secretary general D. Somasundar and the national council members elected from across the country will take up their duties and a national-level struggle will be outlined to resolve the problems of journalists across the country.
