MLA Kulwant Singh Lays Foundation Stone for Construction of Four New Libraries in Mohali
Rs 140 Lakh to be spent on construction of these libraries
SAS Nagar, January 2, 2026 (WISHAVWARTA);- In a significant step towards promoting a culture of reading and learning, MLA Mohali Kulwant Singh on Friday kickstarted the construction of new public libraries in various sectors of Mohali. The initiative aims to inculcate good reading habits among citizens, especially youth and children.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Kulwant Singh expressed his gratitude to Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann for envisioning and implementing the concept of establishing modern libraries across the state. He said that the initiative reflects the Punjab Government’s strong commitment to education, intellectual development, and constructive engagement of young minds.
Under this project, one library each will be constructed in Sectors 77, 78, 79, and 80 of Mohali. The Punjab Government has released a total amount of Rs 140 lakh for the construction of these libraries under the Municipal Development Fund (MDF). Approximately Rs 35 lakh will be spent on each library.
Each library will be constructed over a total area of 1,800 square feet and will be equipped with modern and user-friendly infrastructure. The facilities will include a spacious main hall measuring 32 x 27 feet, separate bathrooms for ladies and gents, an office, pantry, and store rooms to ensure smooth functioning and convenience for visitors.
MLA Kulwant Singh informed that the construction work is planned to be completed within a period of about three months. He added that these libraries will serve as important knowledge hubs for students, competitive exam aspirants, and residents, while also providing a peaceful and conducive environment for reading and learning.
He reiterated that the Mohali constituency continues to witness focused development works under the guidance of the Punjab Government, with special emphasis on education-oriented and people-centric infrastructure projects.
On this occasion, Surinder Singh Roda, Harsangat Singh, Parminder Singh, Kamaljit Kaur, Kulwant Kaur Komal, Rupa Sohana, Randeep Singh, Gurpreet Kaur Councilor, Avtar Singh Mauli, Harjot Gabbar, Charanjit Kaur, Sukhchain Singh, Major Singh, B.S. Chahal were also present.
