JD Vance credits wife Usha Vance for role in his return to Christianity Washington, June 22 (IANS) US Vice President JD Vance has credited his Indian American wife, Usha Vance, with helping shape his return to Christianity, saying her support in their interfaith marriage and her influence on his understanding of love, family and commitment played a crucial role in his spiritual journey. In a candid interview with New York Times columnist Ross Douthat, Vance said his relationship with Usha transformed not only his personal life but also the way he viewed faith after years of atheism and spiritual uncertainty. “I had this epiphany — which is overstating it — but I realised that falling in love with Usha made me realise that there was actually something sacramental to love,” Vance said. The remarks came as Vance discussed his new memoir, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, which traces his journey from a turbulent childhood and eventual loss of faith to his conversion to Catholicism. Vance said his early connection to Christianity weakened after the death of his grandmother, whom he described as the anchor of his religious life. “When my grandma died, that was my anchor to Christianity,” he said. “It’s really no coincidence that my grandma died and, like, two years later, I called myself an atheist.” For years, he drifted away from religion. He immersed himself in education, professional ambition and personal achievement. Looking back, he said those pursuits ultimately left him unfulfilled. “The thing I realised is that this kind of striving had made me pretty hollow,” he said. The turning point, he suggested, came through relationships rather than theology. Vance spoke extensively about Usha, whom he married before entering national politics. Although she does not share his Christian faith, he said her support became an important factor in his decision to return to religion. “I felt kind of guilty, actually, about returning to my faith with all the demands that come with me,” he said. He described the realities of raising a family while practising his faith, noting that his wife embraced responsibilities she had never expected. “I think about this every single Sunday when I take my 36-week-pregnant wife, who is herself not a Christian, and us and our three kids, and they’re late getting their shoes on, and they’re always misbehaved,” Vance said. “She did not sign up for this. She signed up to sleep in on Sundays and not have to deal with this.” Yet, he said, her response never wavered. “But she does it with incredible patience, and her being not just OK with that but supportive of that journey was like almost confirmation or a sign that it was OK for me to go down this pathway.” According to Vance, Usha fundamentally changed his understanding of marriage and relationships. “The thing about relationships, and I think all millennials experience this, because we all grew up in the same culture, is there was this sense in which there was nothing sacred about romance,” he said. That changed when he fell in love. “Usha, even though she’s not a Christian, she really changed how I thought about the union of man and woman together, and she changed how I thought about it. Without even realising it, I thought about it in a very, very Christian way.” Vance also credited Christian friends and families for helping guide him back to faith. Many of the people he most admired, he said, were Christians whose lives reflected values he increasingly wanted to emulate. “At some basic level, I had some really good friends who were really good people, and they showed me the truth of faith by the way that they conducted themselves in the world,” he said. Now 41, Vance said becoming a husband and father forced him to confront deeper questions about meaning, responsibility and purpose. Those questions eventually led him back to Christianity. Usha Vance, a lawyer and the daughter of Indian immigrants, has emerged as one of the most prominent Indian American figures in US public life since her husband’s rise from senator to vice president. While largely remaining outside day-to-day political debates, she has become a familiar presence on the national stage. –

Mann on a mission in Bathinda – addressed the issues of the people, recounted his works of two years, took Badals to task again!

CM Bhagwant Mann took out a mega road show with Bathinda candidate Gurmeet Singh Khuddian in Mansa, Maur, Talwandi Sabo and Bhucho Mandi

Kikli 2.0 gains high popularity, people in every roadshow in Bathinda requested CM Mann to recite ‘Kikli Kaleer di, buri halat Sukhbir di’

I’m aware of the issues of sewerage, heaps of garbage near the railway station, NOCs etc., after June 4th I’ll solve every one of them on priority basis, promises Mann to the people of Mansa

I made your electricity bills zero, now you make Congress, Akali and BJP zero in Punjab: Bhagwant Mann

Mann to youth – We are giving you quality education and opportunities, become officers, uplift your homes, eradicate poverty and take forward your villages

Mann criticised the Agniveer scheme, said – it is against our country and our youth, our soldiers deserve respect and job security

AAP candidate Gurmeet Khuddian urged the people to vote for him and strengthen CM Mann to work with doubled pace and zeal

Mansa/Bathinda/Bathinda, May 22 (WISHAVWARTA):- Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, on the second day in a row, was highly active in the election campaign of AAP’s Bathinda candidate Gurmeet Singh Khuddian. In the afternoon CM Mann addressed a huge public rally in Budhlada and then took out a massive road show with the AAP candidate and covered Mansa, Maur, Talwandi Sabo and Bhucho Mandi of the Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency.

Addressing the people in Mansa road show, Mann said that he is aware of all the issues of the people here. He said that their number one problem right now is the sewerage system of this city. He said that he has already asked the officers to access the problems and start making a strategy. He said that they will make a plan, map and budget for this project. He said that he’ll also take the suggestions of the leaders of Mansa so that no area is overlooked. He said that the new sewerage system will be able to sustain for 40 years because his government is free of corruption and quality work will be done.

Addressing the second biggest issue of the city, heaps of waste and garbage near the railway station, Mann said that the situation was similar in Delhi, we came up with a solution there. For Ludhiana, I talked to Nitin Gadkari to use garbage in the highway construction instead of soil. Mann said that they will come up with a similar solution for the Mansa too. Soon your city will be free to garbage mountain. He said that the previous governments tangled the whole system in 70 years, it will take some time but he is constantly working to improve the system. The people also demanded for an underbridge on the Chakerian road and Mann promised that this will all be done on the priority basis after June 4th. He said that it is a matter of great shame that even after 75 years we still don’t have the basic infrastructure.

Recounting his works of two years, CM said that he gave 43,000 government jobs without any kind of recommendations and bribes. Now the youth of Punjab are not leaving their homes out of compulsion, they are getting government jobs on the basis of merit. He said that in Krandi Village of Budhlada, 40 people got government jobs, now the villages are in competition of which one will have more government jobs. He said that he made sure that farmers should get enough electricity in the daytime for their fields. They shouldn’t be forced to go to fields at night. Many people shared the stories of people getting jobs and their daughters becoming judges, Mann said become officers, uplift your homes, eradicate poverty and improve your villages.

CM Bhagwant Mann urged the voters to vote for the AAP. He said I made your electricity bills zero, you can make Akali, Congress and BJP zero in Punjab. It will be all the validation and encouragement I need. He said that not only 90% of households in Punjab are getting zero electricity bills, for the first time the electricity board is in profit too. He said that it only happens when your representatives, ministers and CM are honest. He said that he knows how to get work done. Everyone has seen his work in the parliament and the assembly of Punjab. He said that he will share passwords of getting work done with Gurmeet Singh Khuddian then no one will be able to stop the work or funds of Punjab and the whole Bathinda constituency will be on the path of progress.

Mann also attacked the Modi government for the Agniveer scheme, he said that they even refused to give the guard of honour to martyred soldier Amritpal, I fought with them, this is the least we can do for our soldiers, they deserve respect. Later they reviewed their decision and decided to give the guard of honour to the martyred soldiers. He said that the Agniveer scheme is wrong, it is against our country and our youth, our soldiers deserve security. They take bullets for their country, the least we can do is give them deserved respect and security.

Mann said that they are solving the issues of NOCs and illegal colonies too. But, the people should not worry, we won’t let any common person suffer any loss because of the looters. He said that for the future, there is red stamp paper for colonies. He said that AAP’s jharoo will be on the number 2 on the voting machine, he urged the people to elect an honest and sincere leader Gurmeet Singh Khuddian from Bathinda Lok Sabha seat with a huge margin victory.

CM Mann yesterday recited ‘Kikli Kaleer di, buri halat Sukhbir di’ in his rally in Naruana, immediately it became very popular among the people. In every roadshow today CM Mann was requested to sing kikli 2.0 and every time it was met with loud cheers from the people. Mann said that this election is going “to be the end of Badal family’s politics” in Punjab. He said that only Harsimrat Badal is left, this time the people of Bathinda will throw her out of the parliament.

*Create history by giving all 13 seats of Punjab to AAP, urges Mann to the people in Maur*

Addressing the people in Maur, CM Bhagwant Mann said that Maur is also facing the problem of the sewerage system. He said that the budget for the sewerage system of Maur has been cleared, the case is in high court right now, after June 4th, I’ll make sure that this project is started immediately. He said that vote for the AAP, don’t think if I didn’t come to your village for a campaign then you won’t vote for us, I know every village of Bathinda and Mansa, you all are my own, your votes are valuable, we value your votes, so vote for us on June 1st. He asked the people to create history by giving all 13 seats of Punjab to AAP.

*In Rama Mandi*, CM Bhagwant Mann said that your love is my strength, it didn’t let me get tired. I won’t stop until I wipe out all the looters of Punjab from its politics and system. I only need your support. They looted Punjab and built palaces for themselves and now they call common people ‘malang’. But don’t worry, I’ve been told that the Badal family is fighting among themselves, blaming each other for the downfall. Mann quipped that Sukhbir Badal and Harsimrat Badal cry themselves to sleep everyday.

*Mann gets overwhelming support from the people of Bhucho Mandi.* A person gifted him a jacket and the people addressed him as ‘Bai Bhagwant’ (Bai is a word used for an elder brother in Malwa). Mann said that he is the first chief minister whom people call ‘Bai ji’, dynast politicians were Kaka ji, Raja ji and Biba ji. He took a dig at Harsimrat Badal too and said that she will taste defeat this time. Mann said that people of Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency are promising him that the AAP will win by the margin of 1.5-2 lakh votes.

*AAP candidate Gurmeet Khuddian urged the people to vote for him and strengthen CM Mann to work with doubled pace and zeal*

AAP candidate Gurmeet Singh Khuddian thanked the people of Mansa, Maur, Talwandi Sabo and Bhucho Mandi for coming out in numbers to join the roadshow. He said that the support and enthusiasm of the people has spurred up the confidence of the AAP. He urged the people to vote for him and strengthen CM Bhagwant Mann to work for the progress of Punjab with the doubled pace and zeal.
