MOHALI, 12th March 2026:

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday asserted that Punjab is witnessing a decisive turnaround in its industrial fortunes, with global investors returning to the state after years of extortion and arm-twisting that had driven industry away before 2022. Speaking after performing the groundbreaking ceremony of Infosys’ ₹286 crore campus in Mohali, the Chief Minister stated the project alone will generate direct employment for 2,700 youth and thousands of indirect jobs.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the Punjab Government has already attracted investment proposals worth more than ₹1,55,000 crore since March 2022, creating employment opportunities for over 5,44,000 young people. He added that the upcoming Progressive Punjab Investment Summit from March 13 to 15 in Mohali will mark a defining moment for the state’s industrial resurgence, with the next three days set to script a new success story for Punjab’s economic growth.

Welcoming representatives of the global technology company Infosys, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann thanked them for expressing confidence in the Punjab Government’s industry-friendly policies. He also recalled the immense contribution of Infosys founder N. R. Narayana Murthy to the economic progress of the nation.

“Today is a historic day for Punjab, especially for the industrial sector. I warmly welcome the representatives of the global company Infosys and thank them for showing confidence in our government’s industry-friendly policies. I also recall the immense contribution of the founder of Infosys NR Narayana Murthy towards the economic progress of the nation,” said Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Describing Narayana Murthy as a legendary figure widely known as the father of the Indian IT sector, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “It is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that this legendary figure is widely known as the Father of the Indian IT Sector. Today is a red-letter day as the Ground Breaking Ceremony of Infosys’ new project worth ₹286 crore is being held in Mohali. This project will provide direct employment to 2,700 youth while thousands of indirect employment opportunities will also be generated.”

The Chief Minister stated, “Under this project, an Integrated Campus will be established in the first phase which will include a Software Development Block, Food Court and other facilities. The campus will have a built-up area of 3,50,000 square feet with a seating capacity of 3,000 people. The Punjab Government will extend fulsome support and cooperation to Infosys for this project, which will encourage more companies to invest in Punjab and create greater employment opportunities for our youth.”

Highlighting the global stature of Infosys, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann noted, “Infosys is a globally renowned company in technology and digital services and currently has 3,37,034 employees worldwide. In the financial year 2025-26, the company has recorded revenue of 15.12 billion dollars in the first nine months. Punjab has now emerged on the global industrial map.”

The Chief Minister also shared, “On March 20, the country’s second-largest Tata Steel project worth ₹3,200 crore will be inaugurated in Ludhiana. This ambitious project will provide employment to 2,500 youth and accelerate the economic growth of Punjab.”

Enumerating the achievements of the Punjab Government in the industrial sector, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Industry-friendly policies of the Punjab Government, corruption-free governance and a conducive environment are paving the way for investments. Due to communal harmony, brotherhood and a peaceful environment, industrial investment in Punjab has increased significantly.”

He revealed that since March 2022 Punjab has received investment proposals worth more than ₹1,55,000 crore which will generate employment for 5,44,000 youth.

The Chief Minister said, “The Punjab Industrial and Business Development Policy-2026 will provide major incentives to investors, create employment opportunities for youth, empower women and support entrepreneurs in starting new businesses.”

He added that global companies such as Nestlé, Claas, Freudenberg Group, Cargill, Verbio and Danone have already established their units in Punjab, while investments are also coming from developed countries including Japan, the USA, Germany, the UK, the UAE, Switzerland, France and Spain.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the industrial sector can progress only when the government and industry work together. “I firmly believe that the industrial sector can progress only when the government and industry work shoulder to shoulder. Investors and entrepreneurs are among the key architects of Punjab’s industrial future,” the Chief Minister.

Inviting investors to participate in the Progressive Punjab Investment Summit, he described the upcoming three days as extremely important for the future of Punjab. “The Progressive Punjab Investors Summit is being organized in Mohali from March 13 to March 15. The coming three days are very important for the state,” stated CM Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The Chief Minister said Punjabis are blessed with an indomitable spirit of hard work, dedication and patriotism, recalling their historic contribution to the freedom movement, making the country self-reliant in food production and defending the nation’s borders. “The sole aim of recalling these things is to keep our younger generations abreast with the glorious and rich cultural and historic legacy of Punjab,” said the Chief Minister.

Expressing confidence about the future of the state, he said the expansion of Infosys’ campus will strengthen Punjab’s position as an emerging hub for technology and innovation while generating significant employment opportunities for youth from Punjab and neighbouring states. “This investment will create significant employment opportunities for the youth of Punjab and neighbouring states while strengthening the state’s IT ecosystem. We look forward to Infosys’ continued efforts in driving technology-led and inclusive economic growth in the region, asserted the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister further highlighted that Punjab offers a robust investment ecosystem with reasonable power tariffs, land availability and a welcoming environment for investors. He said the state ranks number one in Ease of Doing Business and has a transparent Single Window system. “Due to the strenuous efforts of the Punjab Government, Punjab has become the first state to pass the Right to Business Act,” noted CM Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Positioning Punjab as the “Land of Opportunities,” he said world-acclaimed companies are keen to establish operations in the state due to its stable law-and-order situation. “Mohali will be the next industrial hub of the world as it has immense potential. Mohali has an International Airport and a vast talent pool within an 80 kilometre radius which makes it a perfect investment destination,” asserted CM Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The Chief Minister said the Punjab Government is committed to providing employment to youth so that they choose productive careers over social evils such as drug abuse. “I want to place a tiffin in the hands of youth by giving them employment so that they shun syringes and the menace of other drugs. Idle hands are the devil’s workshop, therefore the Punjab Government is ensuring that maximum youth get jobs so that they do not fall prey to social menaces,” said CM Bhagwant Singh Mann.

He also remarked that before 2022 industrialists faced arm-twisting and extortion which forced many industries to leave Punjab, hampering the state’s economic growth. “After assuming charge in 2022, the Punjab Government has taken several revolutionary and path-breaking initiatives due to which Punjab has now emerged as a frontrunner in every field,” added CM Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora and Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjeet Singh Sawhney were also present on the occasion.
