No police clerk will now be allowed to stay at the same station for more than two years, as prolonged postings increase the risk of corruption – Cheema

Chandigarh, March 24 (WISHAVWARTA):- The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is taking strict measures against corruption. Following the recent mass transfers of Tehsildars, the government has now transferred 191 police clerks (munshi) across various police stations.

Addressing the media, Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the AAP government has been fighting a battle against corruption for the past three years. Since coming to power, the government has consistently taken strict action against numerous corrupt officials and employees, sending many of them to jail. Now, the government is tackling corruption, crime, and drug trafficking simultaneously, with visible results.

Cheema said that the Aam Aadmi Party was founded from an anti-corruption movement. “This is why we cannot tolerate corruption at any cost. From the very beginning, we have adhered to a zero-tolerance policy against corruption. We are determined to completely eradicate corruption from Punjab,” he said.

He further stated, “When our party’s National Convener Arvind Kejriwal founded the Aam Aadmi Party, the primary and most significant principle was to fight corruption like a battle. Wherever AAP forms a government, there will be strong actions against corruption. The Punjab Government is working precisely on this principle.”

Cheema revealed that some time ago, complaints were received against certain Tehsildars, Patwaris, and other revenue department officials. Following this, the government took strict action against those individuals across Punjab. As a result, the people of Punjab are now feeling a sense of relief, and corruption is being eliminated day by day.

He stated, “Whether it is a Tehsil, police station, or any other government office, corruption is being eradicated everywhere, and action is being taken against those involved in corrupt practices.”

Cheema also pointed out that the government had received complaints regarding police clerks (munshis) in Punjab’s police stations, where many had remained stationed for 15-20 years, creating a risk of increasing corruption. Meanwhile, SHO, DSP, and other higher-ranking officers at these stations are transferred regularly.

To address this issue, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the AAP government made a significant decision that no police clerk can remain at the same police station for more than two years. Those who have already completed two years at their current station will have their posting changed immediately. In line with this decision, the government has transferred 191 police clerks to different stations.

Cheema concluded by saying, “In the coming days, wherever we receive even the slightest reports of corruption, the Punjab Government will take strict action. It is our responsibility to root out corruption, and we will fulfill it. The AAP Government is committed to providing a corruption-free administration to the people of Punjab.”
