Two, including toddler, killed in Mumbai residential building fire

Mumbai, Aug 12 (IANS/WISHAVWARTA) Two people, including a toddler, were killed, while six others were injured after a massive fire broke out in a residential building in Mumbai’s Vile Parle West, officials said on Wednesday.

According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, they received the fire call at around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The fire, which was initially assumed to be Level-1, escalated to Level-2 at 10:16 p.m.

However, after continuous efforts, the fire was brought under control at around 1 a.m.

DFO R. V. Bhosle says, “At around 10 p.m. today, a fire broke out in a residential flat on the 11th floor of an 11-storey building… Injured persons have been admitted to the hospital for treatment… A fireman was also injured in the process.”

He mentioned that eight fire tenders were deployed, along with other special equipment, to bring the blaze under control.

Bhosle also stated that the blaze had spread across the electrical wiring, an AC unit, and household articles, including a sofa, bed, kitchen items, etc in two of the flats on the 11th floor of the building.

According to the officials, a total of eight people were injured in the fire, out of whom six were shifted to Nanavati Hospital, while two were taken to Cooper Hospital.

Cooper Hospital, in a latest bulletin, mentioned that fireman Manoj Sonavane and another injured, Shivam Dwivedi, were treated and discharged.

Additionally, according to the officials at the Nanavati Hospital, out of the six people brought in, two were declared ‘brought dead’, while four others were stable.

The deceased have been identified as Abir (2.5 years old) and Ankita (23 years old). The injured Parth (32), Hiren (64), Yashasvi, and Abhishek are in stable condition.

Authorities said that the cause of the fire is unknown and efforts are underway to determine how the blaze spread so rapidly across the floor.
