Mayor Saurabh Joshi meets Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav; Centre assures full support for green initiatives

Chandigarh, May 21 (WISHAVWARTA):- In a major boost to Chandigarh’s environmental and sustainable development agenda, Chandigarh Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi called upon Sh. Bhupender Yadav, Hon’ble Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, in New Delhi and held an extensive discussion on key environmental and developmental priorities concerning Chandigarh.

During the meeting, the Mayor raised several important issues relating to environmental protection, scientific waste management reforms, strengthening green infrastructure, pollution control, ecological conservation, beautification initiatives, sustainable urban planning and future environment-oriented projects for the city.

Special emphasis was laid on transforming Chandigarh into a model green city under the larger vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047 – Viksit Chandigarh 2047.” The Mayor shared details of various ongoing and proposed initiatives focused on promoting environmental sustainability, cleaner surroundings, enhanced greenery, scientific waste disposal mechanisms and long-term ecological balance across the city.

The Hon’ble Union Minister patiently heard the concerns and proposals presented by the Mayor and assured full cooperation and all possible support from the Government of India for Chandigarh’s environmental initiatives and developmental priorities.

Expressing gratitude to the Union Minister, Mayor Saurabh Joshi stated that Chandigarh, globally recognised as “The City Beautiful,” must continue setting benchmarks in environmental governance and sustainable urban development.

He further stated that the coming years would focus on building a cleaner, greener, smarter and environmentally responsible Chandigarh to ensure a better quality of life for future generations.

Mayor Saurabh Joshi said, “Environment First, Chandigarh First is not merely a slogan; it is our commitment towards future generations. Chandigarh shall continue moving towards becoming India’s benchmark green city.”
