CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, July 15 (WISHAVWARTA);- In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a cross-border terror conspiracy with the arrest of one individual, and recovered one hand grenade and one 9MM Glock pistol along with four live cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sumit Kumar alias Pandit (24), a native of village Sukhsal in Rupnagar and presently residing at Pandori Waraich in Amritsar. Apart from recovering hand grenade and pistol, police teams have also impounded his motorcycle.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused was in contact with cross-border ISI handlers through Instagram and was being directed to target police establishments and public places to disturb peace and public order. Further investigation is underway to uncover the entire network and identify other associates and handlers involved, he said.
Sharing operational details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting on reliable intelligence and technical surveillance, police teams arrested Sumit Kumar alias Pandit and one Glock pistol along with four live cartridges was initially recovered from his possession.
The CP said that during sustained interrogation and based on the disclosure statement of the arrested accused, police teams further recovered one hand grenade, exposing his cross-border links and foiling a larger conspiracy. Further verification of his criminal antecedents has revealed that the accused is already facing criminal case registered under the NDPS Act, he said.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 109 dated 21.06.2026 under sections 25(6,7,8) of the Arms Act, section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Act has been registered at Police Station Cantonment in Amritsar.
