JD Vance credits wife Usha Vance for role in his return to Christianity Washington, June 22 (IANS) US Vice President JD Vance has credited his Indian American wife, Usha Vance, with helping shape his return to Christianity, saying her support in their interfaith marriage and her influence on his understanding of love, family and commitment played a crucial role in his spiritual journey. In a candid interview with New York Times columnist Ross Douthat, Vance said his relationship with Usha transformed not only his personal life but also the way he viewed faith after years of atheism and spiritual uncertainty. “I had this epiphany — which is overstating it — but I realised that falling in love with Usha made me realise that there was actually something sacramental to love,” Vance said. The remarks came as Vance discussed his new memoir, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, which traces his journey from a turbulent childhood and eventual loss of faith to his conversion to Catholicism. Vance said his early connection to Christianity weakened after the death of his grandmother, whom he described as the anchor of his religious life. “When my grandma died, that was my anchor to Christianity,” he said. “It’s really no coincidence that my grandma died and, like, two years later, I called myself an atheist.” For years, he drifted away from religion. He immersed himself in education, professional ambition and personal achievement. Looking back, he said those pursuits ultimately left him unfulfilled. “The thing I realised is that this kind of striving had made me pretty hollow,” he said. The turning point, he suggested, came through relationships rather than theology. Vance spoke extensively about Usha, whom he married before entering national politics. Although she does not share his Christian faith, he said her support became an important factor in his decision to return to religion. “I felt kind of guilty, actually, about returning to my faith with all the demands that come with me,” he said. He described the realities of raising a family while practising his faith, noting that his wife embraced responsibilities she had never expected. “I think about this every single Sunday when I take my 36-week-pregnant wife, who is herself not a Christian, and us and our three kids, and they’re late getting their shoes on, and they’re always misbehaved,” Vance said. “She did not sign up for this. She signed up to sleep in on Sundays and not have to deal with this.” Yet, he said, her response never wavered. “But she does it with incredible patience, and her being not just OK with that but supportive of that journey was like almost confirmation or a sign that it was OK for me to go down this pathway.” According to Vance, Usha fundamentally changed his understanding of marriage and relationships. “The thing about relationships, and I think all millennials experience this, because we all grew up in the same culture, is there was this sense in which there was nothing sacred about romance,” he said. That changed when he fell in love. “Usha, even though she’s not a Christian, she really changed how I thought about the union of man and woman together, and she changed how I thought about it. Without even realising it, I thought about it in a very, very Christian way.” Vance also credited Christian friends and families for helping guide him back to faith. Many of the people he most admired, he said, were Christians whose lives reflected values he increasingly wanted to emulate. “At some basic level, I had some really good friends who were really good people, and they showed me the truth of faith by the way that they conducted themselves in the world,” he said. Now 41, Vance said becoming a husband and father forced him to confront deeper questions about meaning, responsibility and purpose. Those questions eventually led him back to Christianity. Usha Vance, a lawyer and the daughter of Indian immigrants, has emerged as one of the most prominent Indian American figures in US public life since her husband’s rise from senator to vice president. While largely remaining outside day-to-day political debates, she has become a familiar presence on the national stage. –

Dalvir Goldy made his place in Punjab’s politics through his hard work, but when your party doesn’t value your hard work it breaks your heart: CM Mann

There is no high command or boss culture in our party, we are a family: CM Bhagwant Mann

I contested assembly elections against Bhagwant Mann, today it is his greatness that he is honouring me as his younger brother: Dalvir Goldy

Goldy’s first statement after joining the AAP: I’ll reveal dirty secrets of Congress, will expose how they ruined so many homes

Chandigarh, May 1 (WISHAVWARTA):- The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab gave a very big jolt to the Congress and Sukhpal Singh Khaira in Sangrur and moved a step closer to winning this seat in the upcoming LS polls. On Wednesday, former MLA and tall leader of Congress Dalvir Singh Goldy, along with his entire family and hundreds of associates from Sangrur, joined the AAP in the presence of AAP Punjab president CM Bhagwant Mann and Cabinet Minister and AAP Sangrur candidate Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer.

Addressing the media on the occasion, CM Bhagwant Mann said that it is a special day for the Aam Aadmi Party as a young, passionate and hard working leader Dalvir Singh Goldy is joining the AAP. Bhagwant Mann welcomed Goldy to the AAP and formally inducted him to the party by giving him AAP’s muffler. CM Mann embraced Dalvir Goldy, who contested 2022 assembly elections against him from Dhuri, in a hearty hug.

Dalvir Singh Khangura (41), former MLA Dhuri (2017-22), was a student politician. He was college representative of S.D. College in 2002, he was SOPU (Student Union of Punjab University) president in 2003-04, in 2006-07 he became the president of Punjab University Campus Student Council and joined the Congress in 2007. He contested 2017 Punjab assembly elections from Dhuri and won by 2,838 votes. In 2022 he lost this seat to CM Bhagwant Mann and later contested Sangrur by-polls too.

Mann said that to fulfill the dream of ‘Rangla Punjab’ we need many young, hardworking, honest and patriotic leaders, who want to work for the betterment of Punjab. When Arvind Kejriwal formed the AAP he knew that other parties have some good and honest leaders who want to work for the betterment but are ignored, so our party will give a platform to those leaders. So they can fulfill their dreams and serve their nation. Dalvir Goldy came from student politics. When I was MP from Sangrur, he was MLA, our paths used to cross often, it is the beauty of democracy that people from different parties work together. Mann said that MLA and MPs don’t belong to any party, once election result is declared he/she is MLA and MP of everyone. Like I’m chief minister of everyone even to those who did not vote for me.

Mann said that Dalvir Goldy is a hardworking leader, he came from a common family and became MLA. He said that every party says that students and youth should join active politics but when it comes to rewarding the work of young leaders they often back paddle. When it comes to giving something to these young leaders, traditional political parties choose their family, relatives and old politicians above them. Mann said that Goldy made his place in Congress and Punjab’s politics on his own with his hard work, but when a party ignores such leaders it breaks their heart. When the fruit of one’s work is given to someone else on a silver platter, it is disheartening. Mann said that he is welcoming Dalvir Goldy to the AAP as his younger brother. He said that our party doesn’t have a high command or boss culture, we are a family. We have a young leader like Meet Hayer in Sangrur who is a second time MLA and cabinet minister and now we have another young leader Dalvir Goldy, they are like my two arms in Sangrur. He said that he’s delighted to welcome Goldy into the AAP as he is a sincere and grounded leader of Sangrur.

Mann said that from our party so many young leaders are MLAs today. The people of Punjab have changed the generation in Punjab’s politics. These leaders are working to make Punjab Rangla again. With their passion and dedication, they will write new chapters. He said that we have fought election against each other, but we have no personal differences. Mann said that if someone wants to serve the people of Punjab, he is more than happy to give them an opportunity and a platform. Mann said that our politics need young faces who are educated and are aware of the problems of the common people, and can fight for the rights of the people.

Mann said that there is no pressure on Goldy for joining the AAP, he is coming to a party which gives a platform to young leaders like him. Mann said that Dalvir Goldy hasn’t left Congress but the Congress has abandoned Goldy. Attacking Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Mann said that last time he apologized to the people of Bathinda when he didn’t even get 19,000 votes, this time on June 4th, he will be apologizing to the people of Sangrur.

Addressing the media on this occasion, Dalvir Goldy said that he is grateful to Bhagwant Mann that he regarded him as a capable leader and giving me an opportunity to be a part of his team. Goldy said that I contested election against Bai ji (referring to Bhagwant Mann as big brother), my previous party was insecure because of my work and regard in common people, but it is the greatness of Mann sahab that he is welcoming to his party. He said that he promises to fulfill every duty and responsibility given by the party with honesty and dedication. He said that even when Bhagwant Mann was MP, and he was an MLA, he met him at a Kabaddi tournament, then Mann applauded him for his good work and said that if he (Goldy) needs anything he should just tell him (Mann).

Goldy said that Bhagwant Mann opened roads for young leaders like him. He said that if our youth wants to change politics then they should join politics. He said that there is no better platform than the AAP and they should come together and join the AAP to make Punjab Rangla. He said that everyone has video of Sukhpal Khaira where he is even unable to name 10 villages of Sangrur, that is the problem, undeserving people are given opportunity over the deserving leaders in the Congress party. He said that he and his wife applied for the ticket because they were told to do so, but now Sukhpal Khaira is saying that he knew for more than 6 months that he’ll be contesting from Sangrur. Goldy said that this is discouraging for a young leader like him who worked every day and prepared to fight from Sangrur since the by polls.

Goldy said that he will expose all the dirty secrets of Congress, how they ruined so many homes, how it is a group of 5-7 people who are sharing everything just among them. He said that he didn’t leave Congress but he was expelled from it. He said that he was forced to fight 2022 by polls when everyone else refused to. He said that it is not about tickets and posts, sometimes it is about self respect.
