Vigilance Bureau nabs Municipal Council JE taking Rs one lakh bribe
Chandigarh, 5jun, 2024(wishavwarta)– The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has apprehended Jatinder Singh, posted as Junior Engineer (J.E) at Municipal Council (MC) Mansa last night red-handed while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1,00,000.
Giving information in this regard, an official spokesperson of the VB said this case has been registered against the aforementioned JE on the complaint of Surinder Garg, president of Khiwan Kalan Cooperative Labor Society and Construction Society. He informed that the said J.E. had already been nominated as an accused in another corruption case registered by the VB range Bathinda in October 2022 on charges of committing embezzlement in construction works of Kasturba Gandhi Hostel Bareta, district Mansa.
The spokesperson further added that the said complainant has approached the VB and informed that the aforementioned society was allotted power supply, construction works and many other works by the MC Mansa. In this regard, bills were submitted to MC for payment after completion of the work by the society, but concerned Executive Officer (EO), Junior Engineer (JE), Assistant Municipal Engineer (AME), Accountant, Clerk and Computer Operator were demanding commission from him for releasing the payment.
He further added that after a preliminary enquiry of this complaint, the VB range Bathinda laid a trap during which the said accused Jatinder Singh J.E. was caught red-handed for accepting a bribe of Rs 1,00,000 as commission in return for passing the bills from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses. The VB team also recovered the bribe amount from his possession on the spot.
The spokesperson further informed that on the basis of this complaint, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against council EO Amrit Lal, J.E. Jatinder Singh, AME Gagandeep Singh, Clerk Account Branch Amandeep Singh, Accountant Sham Lal and Computer Operator Rajpal Singh at VB police station Bathinda range. He said that the vigilance teams are conducting raids at different places to search for the remaining accused. Apart from these, if the role of any other employee comes to light, it would be considered during the investigation.
