Vigilance Bureau arrests Assistant Sub Inspector taking Rs 10,000 bribe
Chandigarh, May 13, 2024 (WISHAVWARTA)- The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Monday, has nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Harbhajan Lal, posted at police station Phillaur, Jalandhar district while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned police personnel has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Shindu, a resident of village Nangal, in tehsil Phillaur, district Jalandhar.
He further informed that the above said complainant has approached the VB and alleged that above said ASI has demanded a bribe of Rs one lakh for discharging his son during an enquiry pertaining to a police case registered against him. He further added that a deal has been struck at Rs 50,000 and the accused has already taken Rs 10,000 in this regard.
The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary verification of this complaint the VB team laid a trap in which the above said ASI was caught red handed while accepting first instalment of bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB Police Station, Jalandhar Range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
