SAS Nagar, May 26, 2024 (WISHAVWARTA):- Issuing the restriction on electioneering during period of 48 hours (starting from May 30, 6:00 PM) before the time fixed for the close of poll, the District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commission Mrs Aashika Jain said that as per section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, no person shall convene, hold or attend, join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with the election.
Divulging the instructions issued by the Punjab CEO Office regarding the last 48 hours on May 23, 2024, she added that display to the public any election matter by means of cinematograph, television or other similar apparatus or propagate any election matter to the public by holding, or by arranging the holding of, any musical concert or any theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement with a view to attracting the members of the public thereto, in any polling area during the period of forty-eight hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of the poll shall be strictly prohibited. It also covers opinion polls and exit poll.
Even, advertisements of a political nature would also require Pre-certification from Media Monitoring and Certification Committee on May 31 and June 1, 2024, she further added.
Further, to maintain law and order and peaceful conducting of elections, the political leaders/functionaries/workers of any party from outside the constituency of the poll, would also have to leave the constituency after the poll campaign ends on May 30 at 6 pm, said the District Election Officer.
