District administration Apathy and NHAIs recklessness turning Punjab into desert
Chandigarh, 21 April (WISHAVWARTA):- NHAI’s blatant disregard for government regulations set forth by the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MOEF and CC) is nothing short of appalling. The agency’s relentless pursuit of road construction projects is rapidly transforming Punjab’s lush green landscapes into barren wastelands reminiscent of deserts.
Take, for instance, the “Bharat Mala project” spearheaded by M/S Krishna Construction in the Bathinda area of Punjab. Despite the presence of vital thermal power plants in the vicinity, NHAI shamelessly continues to plunder Punjab’s fertile soil for its insatiable appetite for filling and leveling purposes.
What’s even more alarming is the spineless stance of monitoring agencies such as the District Administration and Pollution Control Board, who seem content to turn a blind eye to NHAI’s wanton destruction. M/S Krishna Construction, the contractor in question, brazenly flouts rules and regulations with impunity.
It’s high time for the regional administration to step up and enforce stringent measures against such flagrant violations. Alternatives like fly ash must be prioritized in highway construction to preserve what little remains of Punjab’s ecological integrity. Failure to act now will only accelerate the irreversible transformation of Green Punjab into Desert Punjab, leaving future generations to inherit nothing but the scars of our negligence and greed.
