Derabassi Police Cracks Attempted Murder Case Within 48 Hours; Accused Arrested
Derabassi/SAS Nagar, March 26, 2026 (WISHAVWARTA);- In line with the ongoing “war against criminals,” to make the state crime-free, SAS Nagar Police has achieved a significant breakthrough. The Sub Division Dera Bassi Police has successfully cracked a case of attempted murder by a house trespasser within 48 hours.
Divulging details, SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said that on March 24, 2026, an unidentified individual, with his face covered by a helmet, unlawfully entered the residence of a woman in Kings Valley Society, Gulabgarh Road, Dera Bassi. The accused attempted to murder the victim using a sharp-edged weapon, resulting in cut injuries to the victim.
In this regard, FIR No. 126 dated 24.03.2026 under Sections 115(2), 126(2), 333, and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Dera Bassi.
Under the supervision of Bikramjit Singh Brar, SP Dera Bassi, a special team was constituted to trace and apprehend the accused. The team, led by Inspector Sumit Mor, SHO Dera Bassi, worked diligently using technical inputs and human intelligence. Their sustained efforts led to the successful identification and arrest of the accused, Ramesh Kumar, resident of Budhanpur, Sector 16, Panchkula. The police also recovered a sharp-edged weapon and a scooter (Activa) used in the commission of the crime.
Following his arrest, the accused attempted to escape custody by jumping from a room. However, he sustained injuries to his right arm and feet due to the fall during the failed escape attempt.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that a monetary dispute was the motive behind the crime.
