DLSA and District Police Organise Traffic and Free Legal Aid Awareness Program at Amity University
SAS Nagar, November 22, 2024 (Satish Kumar Puppy):- District Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar and Police Department organized an awareness program on the Traffic Rules and Punishment in Violations of the Traffic Rules and Free Legal Services at Amity University, SAS Nagar.
Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar, Manjinder Singh, while addressing the students disclosed that members of Scheduled Castes or Tribes, women, children, mentally ill/disabled, unemployed, industrial workers, persons in custody, deportees and prisoners in jails and all those persons whose annual income is less than Ra 03 Lakh is entitled to get free legal aid. He also informed that free legal aid includes free services of lawyers in courts, free legal consultation, court fees, expenses incurred on summons fees and witnesses etc. are borne by the District Legal Services Authority.
Additional Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar, Krishan Kumar Singla, revealed the old and new provisions under IPC and BNS respectively relating to penal provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act with regard to common traffic violation.
DSP (Traffic), SAS Nagar, Karnail Singh, educated the students about the new traffic rules and said that if a child under the age of 18 years drives a vehicle, his parents can be imprisoned for three years and fined up to Rs.25,000/-. Apart from this, if a person allows a child below the age of 18 years to drive a vehicle, he is also a party to the punishment. He also inspired the students to help the injured persons in road accidents. He further said that if a person takes an injured person to a hospital for treatment in a road accident, his name will not be asked and he will not be forced to give any kind of testimony.
Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar, Ms. Surabhi Prashar, also addressed the gathering and informed that on 14.12.2024, National Lok Adalat is being held in which land acquisition, family issues, traffic challan, Complaints filed under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, recovery suits and cases relating to service matters will be considered. If a person wants to pay his challan in Lok Adalat then he can file application before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, SAS Nagar in this regard on or before 14.12.2024.
