World AIDS Day Celebrated at AIMS Mohali
Mohali, December 1, 2024 (Satish Kumar Puppy):- AIMS Mohali observed World AIDS Day with the theme “Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right!”, highlighting the importance of protecting everyone’s rights to achieve the global goal of ending AIDS.
The event began with Dr. Anuradha Bhatia sensitizing undergraduate MBBS students about HIV prevention, the significance of early diagnosis, and the management of needle stick injuries. These students later extended their learning by sensitizing the housekeeping staff, focusing on universal precautions and preventive measures. This initiative aimed to empower the staff with practical knowledge and ensure workplace safety.
The program was collaboratively planned by Dr. Bhavneet Bharti, Director Principal of AIMS, along with Dr. Anuradha Bhatia Associate Professor of Dermatology, and Dr. Amrit, Professor and Head of Community Medicine.
Dr. Bhavneet Bharti emphasized the importance of integrating the WHO’s message into the program, which calls on leaders and citizens to address inequalities that bar the realization of health rights and the end of AIDS. She remarked, “This year, we took the opportunity to focus on vulnerable groups within our institution, ensuring they are aware of universal precautions and their right to a safe and healthy environment.”
As part of the outreach efforts, MBBS students distributed informational pamphlets to patients and their caregivers. These pamphlets aimed to raise awareness about HIV prevention, available treatments, and the importance of addressing stigma in society.
The program demonstrated AIMS Mohali’s dedication to fostering awareness, promoting health rights, and addressing healthcare inequalities, contributing to the global fight against HIV/AIDS.
