DIG, Ropar Range, Harcharan Singh Bhullar, IPS, while briefing the press stated that under the “YUDH NASHEA VIRODH” campaign launched by the Punjab Government and as per the directions of the Director General of Police, Punjab, 77 CASO operations were carried out at HOTSPOTS from 01.01.2025 to 03.04.2025 and 858 suspected persons were checked in the districts of Ropar Range i.e Ropar, SAS Nagar and Fatehgarh Sahib of Ropar Range. Surprise checking have been conducted at all Chemists shops, Railway Stations and Bus Stands twice in each district. Subsequently, 273 cases were registered under various sections of the N.D P.S. Act, out of which 41 belong to Commercial quantity. 438 Drug Peddlers were arrested and 35.325 kg opium, 121.974 kg poppy husk, 2.186 kg Narcotic powder, 419978 narcotic pills / capsules, 1.124 kg heroin, 4.73 kg ganja, 197530 narcotic injections, 0.032 g smack, 1.290 kg cocaine, 3.22 kg charas, Rs. 8,74,820 / – drug money was recovered and 05 pistols / guns, 04 magazines, several live cartridges and 03 luxury vehicles were also recovered from the possession of the drug traffickers.
Similarly, in line with the SAMPARK PROGRAM initiated by the DGP, Punjab about 347 Police-Public Sampark meetings were conducted in the districts falling under Ropar Range to strenthen ties between police and public in curbing drug abuse. Apart from this, 1228 Village Defense committees (VDC) in villages and 160 ward defense committees (WDC) in cities have been formed with regular meetings held with these committees by various officials. During the meetings, eminent persons and common people of all classes are being motivated to educate their children to stay away from menace of drugs and if any person sells drugs in their street area, his information should be given to the police, the identity of the person giving information will be kept confidential. A dedicated anti-drug Helpline No. 97791-00200 has also been launched. School teachers are also being encouraged to motivate the students to stay away from drugs.
Apart from that as many as 435 panchayats and wards in Ropar range have specially passed resolutions that if anyone found selling drugs, will be completely socially boycotted and will be denied to support in get bail. They also pledged that they will fully cooperate with the state government to take strict action against the drug traffickers.
The Punjab Government and the Punjab Police are committed to eradicate the drug trade completely, 09 properties have been demolished so far after taking the orders from competent authority and the properties are being forfeitured under Section 68/F NDPS Act. The state government is implementing a three-pronged strategy of Enforcement, De-addiction and Prevention (E.D.P) for complete eradication of drugs, under which the Punjab Police has motivated the drug addicts for de-addiction, rehabilitation and sent them to de-addiction centers and continuous efforts are being made to persuade more drug addicts to do so.
Apart from this, while taking strict action against the gangsters, 02 notorious gangsters have also been arrested by making a strategy who were wanted in various cases of heinous crimes and 108 POs have also been arrested.
Besides, a total of 154 cases of Heinous crimes like murder, attempt to murder, POCSO Act, kidnapping, dacoity, rape and robbery have been traced and a total of 223 accused arrested. Property worth Rs. 79,84,000/- has been recovered in a short span of time with the assistance of technical tools. A total of 2062 cases have been put in court, out of which 265 cases are convicted. Further, 3148 complaints have been disposed of in a time bound manner. In a bid to resolve traffic issues and enforce road safety laws, 64976 vehicles have been challaned by the traffic police during the day and 12338 vehicles at night. In addition to this, E-challan system is introduced in the district S.A.S Nagar under which a total number of 57839 E-challans have also been digitally issued.
