No rest until scoring victory in ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, says Aman Arora

Chandigarh/ Ludhiana, March 6 (WISHAVWARTA):- Punjab Cabinet Minister and the state president of AAP Mr. Aman Arora, on Thursday, declared that the Punjab government would not rest till drug menace is uprooted from the state completely and crush drug peddling and smugglers with an iron hand.

During a meeting with civil and police officials in police lines under “Yudh Nashian Virudh” drive launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government, accompanied by Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, the Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, who is also a member of the high-level five-member Cabinet Sub Committee formed to combat the drug menace, emphasized that either drug peddlers get themselves surrendered or be prepared to face serious consequences as AAP government will not rest until the scoring sweeping victory in ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign. He expressed confidence in the Punjab police, highlighting their strength, intelligence, and ability to apprehend those involved in this illegal activity. He stressed that it is a collective responsibility to help eliminate the drug problem and called on the public to support the police in their efforts to combat drug trafficking.

Mr Aman Arora also added that police have been given a free hand to take action against peddlers and make the society free of narcotics. He also revealed that from March 1 to 4, the Punjab police have registered 580 NDPS cases and 789 accused have been nominated in these cases besides recovering 170-kg drugs. 60 demolitions have also been carried out throughout Punjab.

He also urged the people to give tip-off about the drug peddlers to eliminate the menace. He also asked the health department to check chemist shops and quacks.

In the meeting, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjiv Arora, MLAs Sarvjit Kaur Manuke, Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina, Madan Lal Bagga, Ashok Parashar Pappi, Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, Kulwant Singh Sidhu, Manvinder Singh Giaspura, Jagtar Singh Dyalpura, Mayor Inderjeet Kaur, District Planning Committee Chairman Sharanpal Singh Makkar, also gave their suggestions for effective action against the drug peddlers. They also assured fulsome support to the police officials in this anti-drug drive.

Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal stated that prevention and enforcement activities are already being conducted on a large scale besides de-addiction and rehab institutions are also being strengthened to provide proper treatment and counselling services for individuals struggling with addiction. These individuals would be offered various job opportunities and skill enhancement through training programs, empowering them to earn a livelihood. A mass awareness campaign against drug abuse has already been launched, collaborating with civil society, industry, educational institutions, NGOs, and others to support efforts to eradicate drugs. He also disclosed that the administration is also preparing a proposal to upgrade Kapoor hospital into a modern de-addiction and rehabilitation centre. He also informed that the administration will also hold a massive marathon to sensitize the community against the drugs in this month besides small video clips in theatres or social media, wall paintings, five-minutes talk on drug abuse daily in school during assembly and etc will be ensured to make it mass movement.

Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal, SSP Ludhiana Rural Police Dr Ankur Gupta and Khanna SSP Jyoti Yadav detailed the Cabinet Minister that properties worth hundreds of crores belonging to the drug peddlers have been frozen so far, besides their illegal encroachments have also been demolished in their jurisdiction. They also mentioned that big fishes of the drug menace are also being arrested daily and their entire network will be completely crushed soon.

Civil Surgeon Dr Pradeep Kumar Mohindra apprised that the district has 46 OOAT centres and these have a daily OPD of 20-40 patients.
